In this lecture, Asher Knafo, an educator, writer and poet, peels the thin, folkloristic layers that enveloped the culture of Moroccan Jews, and reveals a treasure trove of literature, music, poetry and thought, both intentionally and unintentionally.
When Moroccans first immigrated to Israel, many parts of Moroccan culture and customs were put aside due to a variety of difficulties, and the new immigrants assimilated into the local culture. For many years, most did not show and practice the glorious culture that had once grown and flourished in their homes. In recent years, however, there has been a tremendous awakening and renewed interest in the ideas and beauty inherent in Moroccan culture. This session invites you to immerse yourself and re-enter a rich, intriguing and wise culture.
